Choose your auger

Making holes in the ground can be a tedious task. That's why it can be worthwhile to buy an auger if you want to make holes for porch posts or plants and shrubs without getting tired.

Before choosing your auger, you should know its characteristics in order to buy the right product for your needs.

What is an auger?

The auger is T-shaped with a horizontal handle. This shape facilitates the rotation of the auger when penetrating the soil

The part that makes the hole in the ground is equipped with helically shaped blades. It is designed to drill into the ground effortlessly.

What are the different types of augers?

There are four models of augers. Mermier only offers the manual auger.

The manual auger

This type of auger allows to make shallow holes of two different diameters: 10 or 15 cm. The depth of the hole can reach 100 cm according to our models.

The manual auger is a very simple tool, it is composed of spiral blades, a round tube and a T-shaped handle with non-slip rubber grips.

The electric auger

The principle of this auger is simple: it is a manual auger fitted with a motor. It is most commonly used on hard or stony ground.

Like the manual auger, a T-shaped handlebar makes it more ergonomic to use. It weighs about 10 kg.

The thermal auger

For this auger to work, the tank must be filled with petrol to run the engine. It is therefore more powerful, reaching up to 3000 Watts. Because of its engine, this auger will be heavier than a manual auger.

This type of auger is chosen when a lot of holes are made or when hard or stony ground is worked.

The hydraulic auger

Unlike the above models, this auger is equipped with four wheels. It is also equipped with a motor.

They are reserved for professionals.
