Understanding Permaculture

The concept of permaculture comes from the contraction of two words: permanence and agriculture.

This method of agriculture is based on the principles of sustainable development. Respect for biodiversity, human beings and the imitation of the functioning of natural ecosystems are the foundations of permaculture.

Thus, it consists in observing nature and reproducing its functioning and relationships while taking into account 3 objectives:
  1. To take care of the earth.
  2. To take care of humans.
  3. Create abundance and redistribute the surplus.

Setting up a permaculture vegetable garden is adapted to the land and its surrounding fauna and flora.

Our tips for Permaculture:

Observation of your environment is an important factor to consider. You need to observe your garden all the time in order to adapt your actions to imitate what happens in nature.

Use of natural resources:

Creating a compost in your garden will allow you to use the soil created to spread it in the vegetable garden. This soil is rich in nutrients that will be added to the soil in your garden. Other things that can add nutrients to the garden soil are manure and green manures.

Green waste such as dead leaves, grass clippings, dry stems or straw can be used in the vegetable garden in the permaculture principle. If you cover the soil with these elements, the soil will be protected and will remain moist, especially in times of drought.

The tools used for permaculture:

Our broadfork allows the soil to be aerated without having to turn it over, avoiding the mixing of micro-organisms present on the surface and deep in the soil.

Our hand tools allow you to plant or weed small areas in an ecological way.

The shovel is the essential tool for making holes in the ground or moving organic matter.

Our mulching fork is a tool widely used in permaculture for placing hay in the vegetable garden.
